Austin’s World Cup Watering Holes

Want to head out the bar, feel the patriotism and craft beer course through your veins as you cheer on the Yanks. Check out these fine Austin establishments during the World Cup.

Fado

Fado has been opening early for Euro-expats to watch EPL and Champion’s League soccer long before it was cool in this town.  If you want rowdy elbow-to-elbow raucous game experience, this is your bar. Fado is throwing an opening game celebration as host Brazil takes on Croatia. The festivities include food and drink specials, live music post match, and even Brazilian dancers.

Bar 96

This Rainey Street bar will be hosting Austin FC’s World Cup kickoff this Friday at 5pm with members of the Austin Austex soccer team. Bar 96 doesn’t have a kitchen, but there are plenty of food trucks to be found in the neighborhood.

Pinthouse Pizza

$3 Pinthouse Pizza mainstay beers and seasonal pints, while the games are on, seven HD TVs, and audio for all the US games. What more is there to say?

Haymaker

This East Austin establishment is home to Austin’s American Outlaws Chapter, the largest US soccer supporter organization. Plenty of craft beer, sandwiches, and poutine. This place will be rockin’ during the US games. Check out this video from the US friendly vs Turkey.

Mr. Tramps

This North Austin bar is a veteran on the soccer scene. The bar is emblazoned with flags, banners, and supporter scarves. Their is a huge screen in the back for your viewing pleasure. Mr. Tramps offers up a solid craft beer lineup and pub grub.

Black Sheep Lodge

This South Austin bar  is serving up all day beer specials from the countries that are playing that day. Hooray for the US, Belgium, and German games!  Not so much for the Iran and Nigeria matches. For what it’s worth, when I asked for suggestions, this bar was the most mentioned by readers. black-sheep-lodge-logo

Takoba

This modern cantina will be broadcasting all the games live. Two large projectors, one inside and the other on their covered patio. Beer specials and a kickoff party on Thursday with live music from Maracatu.

Liberty Tavern

11 big screens and drink specials. If you’re like me, a card carrying member of AMSA, you’ll get 10% off all food purchased during the games. Don’t forget to bring your player card.

Wright Bros. Brew & Brew

$2 Hops & Grain cans during every World Cup game might be the best deal of the tournament. In addition to the can special they’re tapping a Greenhouse beer for the first game of the Cup and an additional Greenhouse beer for every USA game throughout group play and the final. Check out their Facebook page for updates.

B&B

I’m sure I missed some Austin bars or events. Where is your favorite place to watch the US Men’s National Team? Let me know in the comments section. Thanks for all the great suggestions via social media.

  1. Cuatro

Cuatro’s did unfortunately close, but we have remodeled the space and will open this Friday as Tap 24. We have the same large TV’s and a newly expanded bar. Of course we will welcome back all of our soccer brethren and be showing all of the games, all of the time. We look forward to seeing y’all down here! 1004 W 24th St., 78705

Cuatros is the worst bar in Austin! There is a reason every single supporters group who ever went there moved on. DO NOT go there. Every single bar on this list is better, even the horribly overpriced fado.
