It was another great year for Texas breweries at the Great American Beer Festival. This year it was about both quantity and quality with Texas bringing home 14 medals including nine golds. Congrats to all the winners! Let’s take a quick look at the numbers and trends.
6,647 – The number of beers entered into the competition this year. That’s up 20% from last year.
1,552 – Breweries across the US that entered the competition
1,400– Miles ridden on a bicycle to raise awareness for prostate cancer by Josh Hare of Hops and Grain and others on the journey from Austin to Denver.
50 51 – All 50 states and Washington D.C. were represented at the Festival. The forst time ever.
242 – The number of beer judges that participated in the competition
14– Total medals Texan breweries won this year.
9– gold medals for Tejas, California was the only state that had more.
May the Schwartz be with you– Pedernales brought home the gold in the German-Style Schwartzbier category. They won the silver last year. Shiner medaled in this category the year before that.
Texas, Land of the Herb and Spiced Beer– Panther Island Brewing Co. took home a silver. Texas has won four of the nine medals in this category in the last three years.
Ales over Lagers– of the 14 medals, 10 were ales and only four were lagers.
Repeats– St. Arnold, Pedernales, Real Ale, and Rahr were the only Texas breweries that medaled in both 2014 and 2015. St Arnold currently has a three year GABF medal streak.
