The Great American Beer Festival kicks off tonight in Denver. 44 Texas breweries will be pouring in the hall at the Denver Convention Center. New to the festival from the Lone Star state include Bitter Sisters Brewing Company, Bluebonnet Beer Co, Blue Owl Brewing Company, Freetail Brewing Co, Panther Island Brewing Company, Southerleigh Brewing, The Collective Brewing Project, Tupps Brewery, and Zilker Brewing.
Texan brewers captured a record 16 medals at the Great American American Beer Festival last year. The medal break down: five bronze, five silver, and six gold. Austin and Dallas breweries led the way with four medals a piece. Texas tallied the fourth most medals among the states, trailing only the three craft beer juggernauts California, Colorado, and Oregon.
I will not be attending the festivities this year. Instead I’ll be home in Austin happily taking care of this little shark.
There are, however, a couple of Craft Taste agents on the ground in the Mile High City. Cindy and Adam—two Denverites—will be picking up the slack and drinking my share of craft beer this week. I am excited to hear how these two locals navigate the festival and share their experience with you.
My bold predictions for Texas craft breweries this year…20 medals and someone takes home honors for Small or Mid-sized Brewery of the Year.
Have a great time festival goers. Be safe and happy GABF!
