Austin Beer Week is here again!
Seven Ten glorious days celebrating the craft beer community of Austin. I didn’t steer you wrong last year. Here are my picks for 2014:
Friday, October 24
Craft Pride | 6pm | The Opening Ceremony of Austin Beer Week, head down to Rainey street and kick off ABW 2014 with a celebratory toast. Craft Pride is rolling out some rare and cellared brews.
Hi Hat | 9 pm | If you haven’t had your fill at Craft Pride, head east to Hi Hat for Colorado Night featuring New Belgium, Odell, Left Hand and Oskar Blues. Hi Hat brings their A-game every year.
Saturday, October 25
Draught House | 1 pm | 46th anniversary party. This Austin institution always celebrates their anniversary in style. The tap list has yet to be released, but it won’t disappoint.
These are my two favorite Austin Beer Week events. I would love to see them take place on different days in the future.
Sunday, October 26
NXNW | 11:30 am | Get your oompa on, at the original (north) location of NXNW. The second day of NXNW’s Oktoberfest features traditional German fare, great beer, and raises money for charity. A wiener dog costume contest and an all-breed dog costume contest will also be held Sunday afternoon.
Monday, October 27
Star Bar | 5pm | Blackout! featuring some truly dank beers including, 2013 Rahr & Sons, Stone, Great Divide, Sixpoint, and Prairie Artisan Ales. Also featuring Nebraska Black Betty Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout. Don’t forget indulge in some Valentina’s Tacos to soak up all that dark matter.
Tuesday, October 28
Wednesday, October 29
NXNW | 4 pm | Rare tapping of the award winning Barton Kriek, a Belgian-style lambic with tart cherries. The limited supply means this will go fast. I had a chance to enjoy some at GABF and it was delicious!
Alamo Beer Dinner + Movie – DAZED AND CONFUSED | 7:15 pm | Enjoy the cult classic, Dazed and Confused, with a specialty four-course dinner paired with some of Austin’s finest beers.
Hi Hat | 7 pm | Awesome Awestin Beer Social, celebrating Austin’s craft beer accomplishments and culture. Featuring some rarities from Austin Beerworks, Independence, (512), Real Ale, Hops & Grain, Jester King, Oasis Texas, Live Oak, and more.
Thursday, October 30
Jester King | 6 pm | After last year’s misadventure, Jester King has retooled Funk n’ Sour Fest for 2014. The brewery, now licensed to sell beer, has moved the event to a week night with a more casual vibe. The lineup looks great. As I write this, there are only 17 tickets left; go get them.
Friday, October 31
Hops and Grain | 7 pm | Halloween Party. For $20, partygoers will receive four pours, with additional fills available. The party features live music and a costume contest. This is the best Halloween party on 6th street.
Saturday, November 1
Hi Hat | 11 am | Brunch with the Bitches. Enjoy some beermosas, Breakfast Stout, Real Ale Coffee Porter, and some Ballast Point Victory at Sea while you nurse your hangover with the ladies of Bitch Beer.
Oasis Texas BC | All day | Dia de los Muertos & Lake Monster Release Party. This is the first time Lake Monster is available in cans. Other beer releases, live music, and food from Noble Sandwiches round out the event. ¡Pachangas!
Sunday, November 2
Austin Beer Guide| 2 pm | Bike Pub Crawl 2014. The sweaty closing ceremony of ABW. The route will take you to The Work Horse, Thunderbird, Billy’s on Burnet, and The Draught House. Riders can expect beer specials and special beers along the way.
What events are you planning on attending this year?
